HOW DO YOU HEAL A DYING DISTRICT? PART 1

How do you heal a dying district? YOU MUST INCLUDE THEM IN THE HEALING PROCESS!
Some may beg to differ that the 1st District isn't a dying one, but it is. Just because things are "good" for you in your home, on your street, in your neighborhood, does not mean that things are good in someone else's home, on their street, in their neighborhood, in the same DISTRICT. When you vote...you vote for your DISTRICT representative; not just YOUR neighborhood representative. For those who think that "all is well", just ride through the areas of West Bay Street and beyond. The decision would be unanimous that certain areas of the District are neglected. Areas that use to be thriving communities are areas that are now housing dilapidated, vandalized, and vacant homes.

To revive our District, healing must take place. Healing is not an easy process. You cannot have the promise of a better community without going through the process that it takes to rebuild one and it must include your "star players"..the residents. "How can two walk together unless they agree?" It has to start with an agreement. There must be an understanding that change is necessary. There are many deprived areas in the 1st District and residents are screaming out for help, only to be pacified and not satisfied. Tax dollars are not evenly distributed throughout the District; causing some areas to increase and others to decrease. Take a look at some of the photos. These are some photos (there are many more), from different areas in the 1st District, that reveals that it is evident, that...It's time for change!

GETTING INTO THE COMMUNITY (SMALL CHANGE~BIG CHANGE)

It felt really great  to go into the community today and speak with the constituents. Many are open for change and want it desperately, because they do not like the current state that their neighborhoods and lives are in.

In one community, I have encountered many people that are unemployed and they are unsuccessful in finding work. There is a community center in the 1st District, that does not provide adequate service to the community that it should serve and is in danger of having its doors closed, because the numbers that they receive are low.

I entered into this "ghost town" and asked to see the schedule of events that they offered. I was unable to obtain the schedule , because there was no schedule or list of activities available. I asked to tour the center, which is not very large at all ,and was taken to a room that had a closed door. In this room there are six (6) computers. How can people from the neighborhood know that these computers are available, if there is no notification that they are there for use and, furthermore, are kept isolated in a closed door room, out of view?

Well, this morning, while I was out distributing materials for my campaign, I spoke with a young lady that was waiting at the bus stop to go to an interview. In our conversation, she mentioned to me that she needs help finding employment. During our conversation, I stated to her that her neighborhood's community center has several computers available for public use and that she could use the computers at the center to aid in her search for employment. She replied that she did not know that computers were available at the community center and continued that she was going to the library to use the computer and will start to use the community center's computer instead, because it is closer to her home. She responded with excitement and appreciated me giving her that information. The bus arrived, but the bus was very, very late. I saw her later in the day to find that she missed her interview, because she arrived late. However, it was rescheduled for two (2) weeks from today.

The role of an alderman is to identify the needs of the citizens in the community by connecting them to the proper resources. It gave me joy to provide her with some community SERVICE.

Small changes lead to bigger ones. HOLD ON....CHANGE IS COMING!

HOW MUCH POLITICAL SIGNAGE DOES IT TAKE TO HAVE AN EFFECTIVE CAMPAIGN?

As I go through this campaign, I notice that there are lots and lots of political signage throughout the city advertising candidates that are running for various offices. They are everywhere!!!!!!! I know that the printing companies are jumping around in political bliss, during this time of season.

I do not have any signs at this point, and if I seek to invest into some, it would not be many.

The question of the day is "How many political signs does it take to have an effective campaign?" Is it really about signs or the measure of service that the person is willing provide to the community in which they seek to serve?

Furthermore, once the signs go up...someone has to take them down, when elections come to an end. Now, wouldn't that be like cleaning up after New Year's Eve at Time's Square in New York City?

I know this is random, but that's "What's on my mind."

YES....YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!!!

I have been told on several occasions, by several people that they do NOT vote!!! "No one is going to listen to me anyway!" "Why should I vote?" "My words fall on deaf ears!" ""They" are going to do what "they" want to do anyway."

Many people throughtout the world understand what it took to have the RIGHT to vote and many do not understand, because they are enjoying the fruits of those who labored to have their VOICES heard. Women had to fight, as well, just to receive the right to vote.

YOUR VOICE, VOTE, AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IS NEEDED TO PROTECT OUR COMMUNITY & MAKE THE CHANGES THAT WE SEE OUR NEIGHBORHOODS ARE IN NEED OF. THERE IS POWER IN NUMBERS AND WE NEED YOU!!!! IT IS TIME TO TAKE YOUR POWER OF DECISION- MAKING AND CHANGE BACK.

Voting is a CHOICE. It is a RIGHT, a RESPONSIBILITY and  AN INVESTMENT! HAVE YOU RECEIVED A RETURN ON YOUR INVESTMENT? YOUR CHOICE FOR OFFICE IS YOURS & NO ONE ELSE'S!!!  Do NOT exercise your right when it becomes an emergency! EXERCISE your rights....RIGHT NOW!
